In these circumstances I hope you will

agree with me that it is undesirable to alter section 3(2) and

I may add that judging from the amount of progress so far made,

it is practically certain that the revision will be complete by

Christmas and that delay could only occur in connection with

the Companies Ordinance as regards which I have the honour to

draw attention to my telegram of the 9th. instant. The existing

Companies Ordinances have been omitted from the new edition

and the alternatives are, therefore, either

(a)

to print the Companies Ordinance as sent

to you and to amend it later should you so desire: this is,

however, practically impossible because in the case of Shanghai

Companies confusion would be caused and trade disorganized:

(b)

to preserve the existing law by a

special enactment: this is almost equally difficult, as the

New Revised Edition which is to be declared the only authentic

version of the law will be deficient:

(c)

to retain the services of the Chief

Justice until your wishes in the matter are known and the

Companies law can be incorporated in the edition. But apart
